Why are we so “black or white”? Why are the only two options: “A good criminal is a dead criminal” or “Take him home”?
The gospel is, in essence, a counter-culture movement. A third option.
I think that, as Christians, before we go around proclaiming certainties, or pushing back with other certainties, we should be more humble, dig into the scriptures and ask God to do what only He can do — take our heart of stone and give us a heart according to His, until we can absorb the full revelation of His work and understand its implications.
GRACE is so powerful, so extravagant the power of this LOVE, that, YES, you can celebrate EASTER, even without managing to love in the ideal expression (saying that “a good criminal is a dead criminal”), whether that’s “politically incorrect” or “magnificently orthodox.” To FORBID celebrating it just because someone believes in it, without absorbing the full REVELATION of its implications, is to misuse what it itself represents for every individual who needs to develop LOVE. A whole life would still not be enough for us to be consistent with the truths we believe. That’s why GRACE! Happy Easter in Him, the greatest expression of emptying and love.
