Entrepreneur, Play Fair!

If you advertise that your company has a “predefined” salary and growth plan, why is the candidate required to inform their “salary expectation”?

‘Come on’ entrepreneurs?!? Play fair. Tell the guy: This is the company’s reality, this is what we have in benefits, and we offer this much in salary.

For a really good professional, salary isn’t the only important part of a job. Maybe it’s the most important, and I don’t blame them — after all, we live in a capitalist world. But you can and should have more arguments than just reading the guy’s salary expectation and covering it, or being happy because he aspires to less than you were ready to pay.

I myself changed a lot of things in the company with the goal of improving the relationship and eliminating secrets between old employees, new ones, potential candidates, and the HR crew.

It’s not easy, there’s a financial cost, an emotional one, and a risk — after all, anything that deals with money is a risk, for more or for less. But the result is that we can play fair, and to me, that’s priceless.

Don’t get into bargaining over salaries, and don’t pay less than you can… a fair, honest, fair-playing society depends on each one of us.
