Our Father

By Fellipe Brito

Most of the time I think of God as my Father, but Jesus taught me to ALWAYS start my prayer remembering that he is OUR Father.

I’ve been developing the practice of praying the Lord’s Prayer often, several times a day.

Today, as I started the prayer, while leaving the Subway to head to the Office, I said: “Our Father…” and then I looked around.

I was a few blocks from Wall Street, two blocks from the World Trade Center.

The words had barely left my mouth and I started meditating on the depth of that statement… OUR father.

Father of the beggar, who was still sleeping, wrapped in newspaper to protect himself from the cold.

Father of the suit-and-tie folks, who work at the Stock Exchange here.

Father of all who died in the tragedy that happened nearby.

Father of those who caused the tragedy.

Father of the young woman buying coffee at the corner. And father of the foreigner, who is selling the coffee.

Father of the taxi driver who just honked and cursed at me.

Father of the cyclist who hit the elderly man’s bag on purpose, because the elderly man was slow crossing the street.

Father of my wife, whom I love so much.

Father of that politician I don’t like. And father of the other one, whom, by the way, I also don’t like.

Father of the people who hurt me at work.

Father of the people who help me at the office.

Father of my Bolsominion friend.

Father of my Workers’ Party friend.

Father of my sisters.

Most of the time I think of God as my Father, but Jesus taught me to ALWAYS start my prayer remembering that He is OUR Father.
