Today’s “praise” is by Arrais – Montreal.
ISIS made new victims in the city of light. A day before, however, the same group killed more than 40 people and wounded another 200 in an attack in Beirut. Soon it will be Iraqi and Syrian families who will have their lives shattered by the counterattack to come – it always comes –, of the international military forces.
Our solidarity, as selective as it is fleeting, prevents us from seeing what happens below the equator line. Even with the absurd things that happen in Brazil we hardly write testimonies or change avatars in solidarity with the families.
Unfortunately, we don’t expect anything good in the coming days, because ISIS, more than a terrorist group, is an ideology that resonates deeply in the heart of part of those who “don’t matter.” And its siren song, of power and vengeance, has won over more and more followers. I am very sorry for the Parisian, Lebanese, Syrian and Iraqi families who are victims of this war. And I am sorry for us who, by closing our eyes to what is different, do not see what makes us equal and human.
The only sane way I find to be able to face this world is the hope that there is something more. We live in a lost world… today my heart is broken and without hope, this song is on loop on my radio.
I want to breathe the air of a new home and catch sight of other hills. That would conspire against what I have already seen of the known landscapes.
Having the grass as my bed and the sky as ceiling, to forget my wounds and the memories of this life I will plant and water with new beginnings.
I close my eyes and fill my chest with the air of a hill Where rich and poor will eat from the king’s table.
