Now, August 2026
An archived entry. This is what was true in August, kept as written. The current one is at /now.
August. Summer in LA.
The heat here reorganizes the day around itself, so everything happens early or late and not much in between.
I have been on the Harley a lot more than I used to be. Early mornings mostly, out to Superba or Blue Bottle, then coffee and the journal and whatever work is worth doing before the day starts asking for things. I think that hour is the best one I get.
18.5% body fat. In January it was almost 25, in April it was 21, and sub-15 by the end of the year is still the number. It keeps moving, slowly, which is honestly all I asked for.
Building
Golf apps and mobile card games. That is where the hours go.
NOVA is not the project anymore, it is the tool. My Jarvis. The whole life runs through it now, and I am still a little surprised that it works as well as it does.
Training
No golf course this month. I took the whole month out of it and put those hours into work and the gym instead. Single-digit handicap by end of year is still the goal, and I know how that reads next to a month off.
The gym, prescribed by the trainer app.
Studio Golf in El Segundo, the mat and the launch monitor. These days the app open on the side is Cutline. I follow the process.
Reading
Just finished Possibilities, Herbie Hancock's autobiography. The way he describes living through the evolution of music and technology at the same time is fascinating. He might be one of the most fantastic humans I have read about.
Also finished The Tiger Slam and Hidden Potential. Still working my way through Garden City and God's Homecoming, slowly, which I think is the right speed for both.
Listening
Our Church Speaks, season 5. Saints, one at a time.
And I started studying jazz properly, with Open Studio lessons online. Reading Hancock was part of the same plan, not a coincidence. I want to be inside this thing, from the lessons and from the people who actually lived it.
Watching
Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Great movie.
The real surprise of the year was both Ready or Not movies. Bizarre, and really well made, the acting especially.
